What is a Laser Resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing is a cosmetic procedure that uses focused laser beams to remove damaged outer layers of skin, stimulating the growth of new collagen and resulting in smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin.

There are two main categories of lasers used in resurfacing: ablative and non-ablative. 

• Ablative lasers: (Erbium) remove the outer layers of skin and are effective for deeper wrinkles and scars. 

• Non-ablative lasers: heat the underlying skin tissue without removing the outer layer, offering a gentler approach with less downtime. 

What skin concerns can it address?

What are the risks?

• Risks and side effects:

  Potential side effects include redness, swelling, itching, dryness and changes in skin pigmentation.

• Recovery:

  Recovery time varies depending on the type of laser used and the extent of the treatment.

  Ablative laser resurfacing generally has a longer recovery period (up to 7-14 days) than non-ablative (3-5 days).
